Chapter 7

MYRA RECOGNISED THE large circular room the second she ran through the library door.

Kassy was standing with her hands on her hips and a confused look on her face. “Myra, where did the library go? Where’s Gran? And what sort of a room is this?”

“We’re in one of the witch’s towers. I’ve seen this kind of room before when I helped the pirates and the dragon. You were there but I don’t think you remember much about it.”

Kassy’s eyes narrowed. “I do remember a bit. There was a big TV and I was playing video games.” She scanned the room. “There’s a TV over there but I don’t feel like playing any games.”

“Good. That means you’re remembering who you are and why we’re here. The lavender in our pockets must be working.”

“Are you sure we’re in a tower?” Kassy lowered her arms and walked over to a round window. Myra followed her.

The girls peered out of the window. Myra’s heart sank. She’d never been trapped in a tower before. She’d been the one on the outside, trying to get into the tower.

Kassy’s voice wobbled when she spoke, “Myra, look at all those other towers. There’s rows and rows and rows and rows of them. And they’re so tall. This tower must be tall too. Are we inside some sort of enormous building?”

Myra put her hand on her sister’s back. “This is where The Witch Of A Thousand Towers keeps her towers.”

“All one thousand of them?” Kassy asked.

“It looks that way.”

“But I don’t understand. How did she trap us? I thought the lavender made us invisible.”

“We weren’t wearing the lavender all the time. And it was Gloria who put us in the prison. Come on, Kassy, don’t look so upset. We’ll get ourselves out of this tower.”

“How?” Kassy almost screeched. “There’s no way out! Look around you, there isn’t even a door.”

Myra had a good look around the room. Kassy was right about the door. Myra closed her eyes for a second and told the panic in her brain to go away. She took a deep breath and thought about Gloria. She opened her eyes and said to Kassy, “I think Gloria might be in this tower too. Look everywhere.”

Kassy quickly blinked away a tear and began to search the room.

It didn’t take long for the sisters to find Gloria. She was asleep on a sofa that faced a roaring fire. Gloria’s wand was clutched tightly in her hands.

Myra whispered, “I’m going to try and get her wand. We could use some magic right now.” She moved her hand slowly towards the wand. Her finger touched it. She let out a yell. “Ouch! It stung me.” She shook her hand to get rid of the stinging sensation.

“Let me have a go.” Kassy reached forward and soon received the same treatment that Myra had. She shook her hand and winced. “Any other ideas? Why don’t we just wake her up?”

“We don’t know if she’s good Gloria or evil Gloria.”

“There’s only one way to find out.
